WHAT DO WE MEAN BY “IMMATRICOLAZIONE”, OR ENROLMENT?

By “Immatricolazione” or enrolment we mean the procedure by which a student can register and enrol in the first year of a university degree programme.
The Italian university system includes the following degrees:
    • First-cycle/Bachelor’s degree programmes: Laurea (L), lasting 3 years – 180 CFU;
    • Second-cycle/Master’s degree programmes: Laurea Magistrale (LM), lasting 2 years – 120 CFU;
    • Single-cycle/Combined Bachelor+Master’s degree programmes: Laurea Magistrale a Ciclo Unico (LMCU), lasting 5 or 6 years – 300 or 360 CFU.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

• To enrol in a First-cycle/Bachelor’s or Single-cycle/Combined Bachelor+Master’s degree programme, you should normally hold one of the following academic qualifications:
    • Italian ‘diploma di maturità quinquennale’ (5-year high school diploma) obtained in Italy;
    • Italian ‘diploma di maturità quadriennale’ (4-year high school diploma) with supplementary year, obtained in Italy;
    • equivalent foreign qualification (high school diploma). This must be valid, certified and translated at the relevant Italian Embassy or Consulate, and must be submitted together with a Declaration of value. For further information about the validity of foreign qualifications please go to: International Student Desk.
    • To enrol in a Master’s degree programme, you must hold a First-cycle/Bachelor’s degree and meet the specific entry requirements of the chosen degree programme.

HOW TO ENROL IN AN ‘OPEN’ DEGREE PROGRAMME

Although not requiring candidates to take an admission test as part of the application process, ‘Open’ first-cycle/Bachelor’s degree programmes still require to meet the relevant “Saperi minimi”, or entry requirements, different for each specific programme. These requirements are generally assessed through specific individual tests to be taken during the first year. Failing the “Saperi minimi” test will not  prevent you from registering at the University. However, you will soon be informed by the University about the number of credits (OFA credits, Obblighi Formativi Aggiuntivi) that you will need to regain by passing the test by the end of the first year. For further information on “Saperi minimi” please go to the web page of your chosen degree programme.
To enrol in a Master’s degree programme you will have to meet the entry requirements of the programme, and demonstrate a suitable personal preparation.

HOW TO ENROL IN A LIMITED-ENTRY DEGREE PROGRAMME

To enrol in a limited-entry degree programme you must pass an admission test, in addition to holding the required qualification. Further information are to be found in the Call for applications available in the section “How to enrol” on the degree programme web page.
