Borgo Roma Park

A renewed space for well-being, social interaction, and outdoor activities

The University of Verona promotes the redevelopment of the Borgo Roma Park, located within the Borgo Roma Hospital complex, with the aim of transforming an area currently underused into an accessible, welcoming, and vibrant space dedicated to physical and mental well-being, social interaction, and participation.

The initiative is part of the University’s policies aimed at the well-being of the academic community, the protection of human dignity, inclusion, and the removal of barriers to full participation in academic life. The project is consistent with the University Strategic Plan 2026–2028 and the Integrated Plan of Activities and Organization 2026–2028, particularly regarding actions dedicated to equal opportunities, organizational well-being, and social sustainability.

A park open to the community

The redevelopment of Borgo Roma Park aims to return to the university, hospital, and local community a recognizable and fully usable green space, enhancing the existing area and building a shared asset. The project highlights the role of open spaces as places that foster meeting, relationships, inclusion, and participation, promoting both individual and collective well-being.

An accessible, safe, and inclusive environment

The intervention includes the creation of:

  • accessible pedestrian pathways, developed following the natural layout of the terrain and built with non-slip materials, to ensure safety and usability also for people with reduced mobility;
  • a multifunctional central square, designed as a place for gathering and staying, intended for outdoor activities, cultural initiatives, educational moments, and well-being-oriented practices such as yoga, mindfulness, and informal meetings, involving students, university staff, healthcare professionals, patients, caregivers, and the wider community;
  • equipped spaces with seating and tables, integrated into the natural setting and located in shaded areas, to encourage everyday use of the park.

Particular attention is given to the conservation and enhancement of existing environmental features, preserving the trees and respecting the morphology of the terrain, with a focus on sustainable and non-invasive intervention.
