Requirements for enrolment in subsequent years - Science and Engineering

In order to be admitted to the second year, the student must have cleared the additional training obligations (OFAs) and obtained the number of credits defined in the regulations, by taking the exams required in their study plan, by the specified date in the calendar year following the year of enrolment (e.g.: if the student enrolled in October, they must have the requirements to enrol in the second year by the following dates):

• Biotechnology: OFA and 30 CFU obtained through first-year examinations by 5 October of the calendar year following enrolment
• Viticultural and Oenological Science and Technology: students must have passed the basic skills test (OFA) by the end of the first-year autumn examination session;
• Innovation and Sustainability in Food Production: students must have passed the basic skills test (OFA) by the end of the first-year autumn examination session;
• Bioinformatics: OFA and 24 CFU obtained through first-year examinations by 10 December of the calendar year following enrolment;
• Computer Science: OFA and 24 CFU obtained through first-year examinations by 10 December of the calendar year following enrolment;
• Applied Mathematics: OFA and 24 CFU obtained through first-year examinations by 10 December of the calendar year following enrolment;
• Medical Systems Engineering for Personal Care: OFA fulfilled by 10 December of the calendar year following enrolment;
• Robotic and Intelligent Systems Engineering: OFA fulfilled by 10 December of the calendar year following enrolment.

Additional Learning Requirements (OFA) – Students enrolled in the academic year 2026/27 and students with OFA status “not passed”

If a student enrols without having acquired the required basic skills upon entry, they will be assigned the corresponding Additional Learning Requirements (OFA), which must be fulfilled during the first year of the degree programme.*
For some study courses, OFAs are considered to have been fulfilled by passing specific exams: please check this detail on the course's web page in the section "How to enrol - Entry requirements - Methods and dates of verification", taking care to select the academic year of enrolment from the appropriate menu. 

How to fulfil the Additional Learning Requirements (OFA) according to the degree programme

Biotechnology

Automatically fulfilled by passing the TOLC-B with the following scores:

• a score of 6 or higher, calculated as the sum of the scores obtained in the Mathematics and Physics sections;
• and a score of 4 or higher, calculated as the sum of the scores obtained in the Chemistry and Biology sections.

Alternatively, the OFA can be fulfilled as follows:

• Chemistry and Biology OFA: by passing both first-year examinations in General and Inorganic Chemistry and General and Cellular Biology;
• Mathematics and Physics OFA: by passing both first-year examinations in Mathematics and Statistics and Physics.

Viticultural and Oenological Science and Technology

Automatically fulfilled by passing the TOLC-AV with the following scores:

• a score of 3 or higher, calculated as the sum of the scores obtained in the Basic Mathematics and Physics sections of the CISIA TOLC-AV test;
• a score of 3 or higher, calculated as the sum of the scores obtained in the Chemistry and Biology sections of the CISIA TOLC-AV test.

Alternatively, the OFA can be fulfilled as follows:

• Basic Mathematics and Physics OFA: by passing the Mathematics and Statistics or Fundamentals of Applied Physics examination;
• Chemistry and Biology OFA: by passing the General and Inorganic Chemistry or Plant Biology and Physiology examination.

Bioinformatics

To be fulfilled by 10 December of the calendar year following enrolment:

• by obtaining a minimum score of 6, calculated as the sum of the scores obtained in the “Mathematics” and “Logic” sections;
• by passing the test held at the end of the remedial course;
• by passing the Linear Algebra and Analysis examination.

Computer Science

To be fulfilled by 10 December of the calendar year following enrolment:

• by obtaining a minimum score of 6, calculated as the sum of the scores obtained in the “Mathematics” and “Logic” sections;
• by passing the test held at the end of the remedial course;
• by passing the Algebra and Basic Mathematics, Linear Algebra, or Mathematical Analysis examination.

Applied Mathematics

Automatically fulfilled:

• by obtaining a score of 12 or higher, calculated as the sum of the scores obtained in the “Mathematics” and “Logic” questions of a TOLC-I;

Medical Systems Engineering for Personal Care

Automatically fulfilled by obtaining the following minimum scores in the TOLC-I:

• at least 8 points in the Mathematics questions;
• at least 4 points in the Science questions.

If the above minimum scores are not obtained in the TOLC-I, the corresponding OFA will be assigned as follows:

• if the score obtained in the Mathematics questions is below 8, the Mathematics OFA will be assigned;
• if the score obtained in the Science questions is below 4, the Physics OFA will be assigned.

Alternatively, the OFA can be fulfilled by passing the following examinations within the first academic year:

• Mathematical Analysis or Linear Algebra and Geometry for the Mathematics OFA;
• “Mechanics and Thermodynamics” for the Science OFA.

Robotic and Intelligent Systems Engineering

Automatically fulfilled by obtaining the following minimum scores in the TOLC-I:

• at least 8 points in the Mathematics questions;
• at least 4 points in the Science questions.

If the above minimum scores are not obtained in the TOLC-I, the corresponding OFA will be assigned as follows:

• if the score obtained in the Mathematics questions is below 8, the Mathematics OFA will be assigned;
• if the score obtained in the Science questions is below 4, the Physics OFA will be assigned.

Alternatively, the OFA can be fulfilled by passing the following examinations within the first academic year:

• Mathematical Analysis or Linear Algebra and Geometry for the Mathematics OFA;
• “Mechanics and Thermodynamics” for the Science OFA.

Remedial courses and OFA tests

In order to facilitate the timely acquisition of the required basic skills, specific supplementary and support learning activities are organised.

These activities consist of four remedial courses: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.

The remedial courses are available at the following CISIA link: FREE ONLINE COURSES and consist of recorded video lessons, which students can attend independently, according to their own pace and study needs. In addition to the video lessons, each course will also include a support learning activity delivered by faculty members from the relevant academic area.

The schedule of the OFA remedial courses will be published in the Documents section and will also be communicated through MyUnivr.

Assessment Tests

Two tests will be held to assess whether the required entry-level skills have been acquired:

• one test in December 2026;
• one test at the end of January 2027.

The test dates and all relevant information will be published in the Documents section and will also be communicated through an announcement on MyUnivr.

Minimum Scores Required to Pass the Assessment Tests

• Entry-level knowledge: Mathematics (passed with a score of 18/30 or higher)
• Entry-level knowledge: Basic Mathematics and Physics (passed with a score of 18/30 or higher, calculated overall across Mathematics and Physics)
• Entry-level knowledge: Physics (passed with a score of 18/30 or higher)
• Entry-level knowledge: Chemistry and Biology (passed with a score of 18/30 or higher, calculated overall across Chemistry and Biology)
