Temporary restriction of access to some online services for security updates

Following the international disclosure of two critical vulnerabilities affecting PHP, a technology widely used in web services, the University of Verona has adopted precautionary measures to protect its IT systems and the data of the university community.

These vulnerabilities could compromise the security of systems and data. For this reason, while the necessary updates are pending, the University has decided to temporarily restrict access to some online services.

Access to the following services is temporarily suspended, both from within and outside the University:

  • moodledidattica
  • moodleser
  • moodleext
  • esamionline
  • recruiting
  • dberw

During this suspension, students will also be unable to access the affected learning platforms, even when connected to the University’s Wi-Fi network.

Other services affected by the security measures remain accessible from the University network or, from outside, via VPN, for those authorized to use it.

The restrictions are temporary. Normal access is expected to be restored by Saturday, 24 October, but this will depend on the availability of security updates for the platforms the services rely on. Since these updates must be released by the respective providers, the date may change.

The University is monitoring the situation and will restore services as soon as the necessary security conditions are in place.

The university community, including students, will be kept informed of updates and service restoration.

We apologize for the disruption to study, teaching, and work activities, and thank the entire university community for its cooperation.

Per un intervento precauzionale di sicurezza, alcuni servizi online sono temporaneamente disattivati o accessibili solo dalla rete di Ateneo o tramite VPN. Seguiranno aggiornamenti sul ripristino.
