The University of Verona and Artificial Intelligence

Policies, initiatives and guidelines

At the University of Verona, Artificial Intelligence represents a strategic lever for innovation and a commitment to a conscious and human use of digital technologies.

The University views AI not only as a tool for progress, but as an opportunity to
rethink the way we teach, study, conduct research, and work,
always placing the individual and ethical responsibility at the center of every decision.

University Regulations

A first concrete action

General Guidelines for the Use of Artificial Intelligence

The University has adopted its own  General Guidelines for the Use of Artificial Intelligence , which establish the fundamental principles for the  ethical, legal, and responsible use  of AI, in line with the European and national regulatory framework.

These will be followed by  specific guidelines  dedicated to the various areas—teaching, research, and administration—which will offer operational indications for consistent and safe application.

Guidelines
Training as a driver of innovation

Training as a driver of innovation

  • Two AI Literacy  courses are currently being developed   for teachers and students, designed to provide critical and methodological skills on the use of AI in learning, research, and management processes.
  • Teachers  already have the opportunity to use ChatGPT in “educational” mode , a tool that allows them to experiment in a controlled way with the potential of generative AI for teaching and course design.
  • The University is evaluating and implementing artificial intelligence tools integrated into the Moodle and Woocla p platforms , with the aim of providing teachers and students with intelligent resources to personalize and improve the learning experience.
  • An AI tool dedicated to administrative offices is being designed  , aimed at supporting data analysis, the automation of repetitive processes and the simplification of operational activities, always respecting human supervision and control.

Through these initiatives, the University of Verona aims to build a conscious, inclusive, and sustainable digital ecosystem.

Technological innovation thus becomes an integral part of the cultural and professional growth of our academic community.

Degree Programs

Research and Laboratories

  • "Artificial Intelligence" Research Area – Department of Computer Science

Activities on formal methods, optimization, multimodal signal modeling, and more, supported by dedicated laboratories and infrastructures (e.g., VIPS, STARS, etc.).

  • DAIH - Digital Arena for Inclusive Humanities

We design and advance AI methodologies and tools for natural language processing, knowledge extraction and representation, and accessibility, alongside research on biases and the broader societal effects of AI on diversity, equity, and inclusion.

  • ISLa – Intelligent Systems Lab

Methodological and applied research in machine learning, reinforcement learning, planning under uncertainty, and multi-agent coordination, with applications ranging from mobile robotics to Industry 4.0.

Projects, Networks, and Calls

  • ARMADA – AI for Reliable Language (MSCA Doctoral Network)

European project coordinated by UNIVR to develop methods and tools that make language-based AI models more reliable; it involves the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures.

  • FAIR – Future Artificial Intelligence Research (PNRR)

Opportunities and calls within the national extended partnership on Human-Centered AI, with updates published through UNIVR channels dedicated to technology transfer.
