For this topical research-objective she has been awarded a one-year research grant for her project "The Holocene is Over: The Planet is an Ailing Patient" by the Research Commission of her Department.
Ongoing research topics are:
a) The Enlightenment: Identity Issues and Nation formation, cf. "The Invention of Northern Aesthetics in 18th-Century English Literature", Cambridge Scholars (2017); (2016) De Mandeville, Fable of the Bees. b) Modernism, Postmodernism, Victorian Studies with a special focus on Aesthetics and Literature – strategies of literary representation and aesthetic legitimization: beauty, enframing, mimesis, reality effects – cf. (2005) "Oggetti e collezioni nella letteratura inglese dellì'Ottocento" - cf.(2008) "The Well-Beloved: T. Hardy's Manifesto or 'Regional Aesthetics'", VLC, Cambridge University Press. c) Charles Darwin’s Literary Legacies: Body Politics and Policies, Identity Politics and Policies, human rights, body & self-fashioning aesthetics, ethnicity, sex and gender, LGBT, class and age discrimination. d) Material Culture, Cultural Studies, Interrelation of Bodies and Technology, Artificial Intelligence, SLMachines. e) Visual Studies: Visual Culture and Visual Rhetoric – painting, sculpture, architecture, garden aesthetics, cinema, photography, and design – Aesthetics and Politics – "Othello e la retorica visuale" "Tassonomie visuali: Calvino e V. Woolf". f) Identity Politics and Geopolitical use of Space metaphors, Invented Geographies, Aesthetics and Cultural Regionalisms (various) cf. (2002) Genio e immaginazione nel Settecento inglese – Francis Grose and Aesthetic Regionalism (2017) f) Law and Literature, Bioethics and Literature, Dickens and the Law (cf. 2007, 2008, 2010) – g) Food and Literature, Food for Dreams and an Appetite for Nations, RSV, 44 (2017) h) Ecocriticism: (2013) "Nature as Oikos and Kepos: Ecocriticism as a Branch of Bioethics in Romantic Studies", Quaderni del CRIER, Romanticismi, and Pólemos, 14:1, 2020, pp.147-61. Migration, and Diaspora Studies. Cosmopolitanism, Globalization, Identity-Politics and the Geopolitical use of visual space-metaphors, deployed as Imaginary Geographies and their implied Politics, are thus discussed via a Nation-Narration and Invented-Identity Eristics. Political Aesthetics and Literature, deployed in Visual Studies, Visual Culture and Visual Rhetoricare thus used to highlight the resurgence of populistic jargons and themes in Literature, Visual Media, and in TV-series (Utopia, Homeland, Occupiert, in Polemos 2020). In order to debunk such moves she champions the necessity of a plurality of Aesthetic and Cultural ‘Regionalisms’ (cf. ‘The Well-Beloved: Thomas Hardy's Manifesto of 'Regional Aesthetics' in VLC, C.U.P., 2008), to be framed within a Globalization Ethics, to challenge “the always resurgent dictatorship of the ahistorical metaphysics of beauty” (p. 230) and, parallel to it, the Cultural Myth of Nationalism which goes with it. Cultural Studies constitute the privileged epistemic filter of her research.
