PNRR Young Researchers

The call  PNRR Young Researchers 2022 (DDG 247 on19/08/2022) is closed. A new call should be pubblished.

The Italian Ministry of Universities and Research – with the National Recovery and Resilience Plan – finances 700 research positions for young researchers divided in three strands.

Strand ERC Starting Grant

This strand is dedicated to ERC Starting Grant Principal Investigators (PI) currently working at a host institution abroad, whose project is still running on 11 October 2022. The PI must have 2-7 years from their PhD (with possible extensions for specific cases).
If selected for funding, the PI will be hired as associate professor by 31 May 2023.
The call provides for funding of up to € 1 million for a three-year project, complementary to the ERC-funded.
The University of Verona is available to host PIs in the ERC sectors in Life sciences (LS), Physical sciences and engineering (PE), and Social sciences and humanities (SH).
The PI must submit their proposal on the GEA portal by 25 October 2022 (new deadline).

Strand MSCA Individual fellowship / Postdoctoral fellowship

This strand is dedicated to MSCA Individual fellowship / Postdoctoral fellowship grantees, whose project has been completed within 12 months before 11 October 2022. The researchers must have 2-7 years from their PhD (with possible extensions for specific cases).
The call provides for funding of up to € 300,000 for a three-year project.
If selected for funding, the applicant will be hired as temporary researcher (RTD-A) by 20 December 2022.

After the internal evaluation procedure, the applicant will have to submit the full proposal on the GEA portal by 25 October 2022.

Strand SOE – Seal of Excellence

This strand is dedicated to those who have received Seal of Excellence for their MSCA Individual fellowship / Postdoctoral fellowship in the last two years. The researchers must have 2-7 years from their PhD (with possible extensions for specific cases).
The call provides for funding of € 150,000 for a two-year project.
If selected for funding, the applicant will be hired as temporary researcher (RTD-A) by 20 December 2022.

Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowships

The Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowships ― funded under Horizon Europe Programme ― are the main tool from European Union to support the transnational mobility and career development of the most talented researchers.
All researchers with a PhD degree and not more than 8 years of experience in research can participate. All research topics can be funded: from physics to linguistics, from life sciences to mathematics.

European Research Council grants

The European Research Council (ERC) finances frontier research projects carried out by outstanding researchers of any nationality and age, hosted by European research institutions. The funding programme is open to proposals in any discipline and on any topic. The contribution allows the principal investigator to establish or enlarge his or her research group to carry out an ambitious project.
The main types of grant  are the Starting Grant for researchers with 2-7 years of experience since completion of PhD, the Consolidator Grant for researchers with 7-12  years of experience since completion of PhD, and the Advanced Grant for established researchers.

Rita Levi Montalcini Programme

The Rita Levi Montalcini Programme of the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR) allows young researchers working abroad to come back to Italy and be hired by a State university to carry out their research activity.
Researchers must have received the PhD degree between 3 and 6 years before the call deadline, and they must have been working abroad in a university or research centre for at least 3 years.
